On 30 October 1942, Sergeant Josephs, a Staff Pilot, was detailed to convey Pilot Officer Andrews in Master W8369 from No. 53 Operational Training unit to Yeovilton to collect Spitfire AR255 piloted by Sergeant Storey which had force landed at Yeovilton owing to being lost. Sergeant Josephs was instructed to bring Sergeant Storey (a student at the unit) back in the Master. Sergeant Josephs arrived at Yeovilton and picked up Sergeant Storey and during the return journey when 10 miles west of Weston Zoyland the aircraft crashed into Spitfire AR255 (flown by Andrews) at about 1230 hours, when low flying in bad visibility while carrying out formation flying. The crew members in both aircraft were killed.
