On 6 July 1941, Sergeant Membrey was involved in a motor vehicle accident at Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, in which Corporal Maurice Mannix Carroll (3123) was killed.
Having his place of death recorded as Wooroloo, it is likely that Sergeant Membrey may have died from Tuberculosis (TB) or associated complications.
