On 20 October 1942, Kittyhawk EV361 flown by Pilot Offcer Alderson was one of formation of Kittyhawk aircraft escorting Baltimore bombers to a target in the Fuka area. The formation was attacked by enemy aircraft, and EV361 was not seen during the dog fight. EV361 failed to return to base and it was later learned that Pilot Officer Alderson had been killed.
