On 16 July 1943, Kittyhawk A29-117 flown by Pilot Officer Arnott took off in company with Flight Sergeant William Charles James (412812) (Discharged: 26 September 1944) in Kittyhawk A29-22 to carry out a combat training exercise. Flight Sergeant James last saw A29-117 at 10,000 feet behind him in a steep turn in a position between Lake Victoria and Wentworth, New South Wales. Pilot Officer Arnott’s remains in the burnt out aircraft were found 14 miles south west of the aerodrome on 17 July 1943.
