On 17 August 1945, Flight Blundell was flying solo in Mosquito A52-103 and giving a flying display at RAAF Station Laverton. The port airscrew was deliberately unfeathered and the aircraft made a violent swung to port during a climb which resulted in the loss of airspeed leading to a stall. The aircraft was almost recovered from the stall but crashed killing Flight Lieutenant Blundell.
