At 2345 Hours on the night of 31 July 1942 Halifax W1100 took off from RAF Linton-on-Ouse to bomb Dusseldorf, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft and it failed to return to base. It was later established that the aircraft was shot down by anti-aircraft fire and crashed at 0345 hours
near Serooskerke (Zeeland) on Schouwen, Netherlands. Two crew members were killed and five became Prisoners of War.
