On 16 March 1917, Second Lieutenant Browning resigned from the Australian Army and accepted a Commission in the British Army.
On 11 August 1917, Second Lieutenant Browning flying Avro 7967 was killed when his aircraft collided with BE12 aircraft 6575 at 150 feet just outside Catterick Aerodrome and both aircraft crashed. The BE12 was flown by Lieutenant Errington Edward Castle RFC. Lieutenant Castle died the following the day.
