On 5 June 1942, Corporal Bryant, a Fitter Driver Motor Transport, died in a collision on the Geelong Road, Footscray. The car he was driving collided with a convoy of five transport vehicles carrying Beaufighter fuselages that was proceeding to No. 1 Aircraft Depot from the Melbourne docks.
