No. 18741 F/SGT. CHALMERS, John, Air Gunner, of No. 25 Squadron, died a MARBLE BAR District hospital at 2030 hours on 27th March, 1945 as the result of head injuries received when he fell from a motor vehicle about nine miles south of MARBLE BAR on the CORUNNA Road. F/SGT CHALMERS was on detachment to CORUNNA DOWNS as a member of a crew detailed to carry out CUN. 4/28 March.

Operation CUN (Cunderdin) 4 was a shipping sweep of the Alas and Lombok Straits by six No. 25 Squadron Liberators undertaken on 28 March 1945 – one small Japanese supply vessel was claimed destroyed and two others damaged. During the sweep, two of the Liberators were sequentially attacked by a Japanese Nick aircraft; the Liberators were undamaged and it is likely that the Nick suffered only minor damage.
