On 24 December 1943 at Bradley’s Field satellite aerodrome, Wirraway A20-299 crashed after take-off and the pilot, Leading Aircraftman Charters, flying solo, was killed. The tail wheel passed over a stick which was thrown up and damaged the tailplane, causing the accident.
