On 23 April 1943, Pilot Officer Clarke, a Pilot, was acting as Aerodrome Control Pilot for night flying at CFS Tamworth. He was struck by the undercarriage of Avro Cadet aircraft A6-8 as it was landing from a non-operational instructional flight. Pilot Officer Clarke was admitted to No. 102 Australian General Hospital dangerously ill with a compound fracture of the right femur and he died later that evening.
