On 2 August 1941, Aircraftman Class II Colwell, a Trainee Aircrew, was admitted to Station Sick Quarters, Somers, with pneumonia, and later transferred to the Flinders Naval Base Hospital, dangerously ill with broncho pneumonia and he died on 18 September 1941.
