On 22 January 1947, Leading Aircraftman Cook, a Plant Operator, was diagnosed seriously ill with a cerebral tumour at Iwakuni, Japan, and repatriated to Australia on HMAS Kanimbla. He was admitted to No. 6 RAAF Hospital on l7 February 1947 and transferred to the Alfred Hospital Melbourne where he died on the 18 February 1947.
