Wellington BK309 took off from RAF Snaith at 1710 hours on the night of 23 October 1942 detailed to carry out a Gardening mission to lay mines. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was lost and it was later learned that two crew members had been killed and three had become Prisoners of War.
