On 2 December 1940, Aircraftman Class II Davies, a trainee pilot, reported to station sick quarters feeling of lassitude, weakness and a headache. Later that evening he developed pains in the back and his legs. He spent a restless night and was diagnosed as having influenza. At about 1930 hours the headaches became more acute and a petechial rash spread over Ins body. He was diagnosed suffering from meningococcal meningitis and was transferred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Perth, where he died on 28 December 1940.
