On 29 August 1942, Kittyhawk A29-106 crashed at Fall River strip, Papua New Guinea. The aircraft had left Port Moresby on the 28 August on a ferry flight to Milne Bay where it arrived safely. The next day a Japanese convoy was reported to be approaching and all available aircraft were ordered to attack the convoy. Flying Officer Davis took part in the operation, and on his return he approached the Fall River strip too low. The aircraft hit a coconut tree to the port side of the strip. The port wing dropped and the aircraft crashed into a coconut plantation. Flying Officer Davies died of his injuries one hour later.
