Lancaster ME323 took off from RAF Binbrook at 1806 hours on the night of 3 March 1945 on a training flight. The aircraft was shot down by an intruder aircraft (Operation Gisela) on 4 March 1945 between Stockwith and Blyton, two villages 3 miles north west and north east respectively from Gainsborough in Lincolnshire, and all seven crew members were killed. Cannon fire was heard by an eye witness.
