On 12 August 1941, a No. 20 Service Flying Training School aircraft flown solo by Sergeant Ellis crashed at Estes Farm, about 20 Miles from Salisbury. The aircraft was being flown lower than the authorised altitude and stalled on a turn and was unable to be recovered.
