At 1055 hours on 8 December 1941 Spitfire AA864 took off from Gravesend as part of Biggin Hill Wing. During a sweep over France Sergeant Enright was flying Yellow 2. About 10 miles over the French coast various enemy aircraft were sighted and Sergeant Enright followed Yellow 1 down to attack 4 ME109s. As the attack was broken off Yellow 1 was attacked by more ME109Es as was also presumably Sergeant Enright in Yellow 2. After the attack Yellow 1 saw nothing more of Sergeant Enright nor could radio communication be established with him. Following post war enquiries and investigations, it was recorded in 1949 that Sergeant Enright had no known grave.
