At 1911 hours on the night of 15 March 1944 Halifax HX330 took off from Snaith detailed to bomb Stuttgart, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. It was later established that the aircraft was shot down by a night fighter and crashed at Hericourt (Haute-Saone), 45kms east south east of Vesoul, France. All of the crew members were killed.
