On the night of 3 January 1944, Halifax DT626 took off from Riccall detailed to carry out a night cross-country training exercise. At approximately 0045 hours on 4 January, the aircraft crashed with great force (having partially broken up in the air), a miles south west of Pentrefoelas about 15 miles south west of Denbigh. All the crew members were killed in the crash.
