At 2211 hours on the night of 29 July 1943 Halifax JB798 took off from Breighton detailed to attack Hamburg, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed at Bad Oldesloe, 20 kms south west of Lubeck, Germany. All the crew members were killed.
