The National Archives record shows Leading Aircraftman Freeburn, a Security Guard at No. 1 Recruit Depot, being a member of No. 9 Squadron, a sub-unit of No. 1 Recruit Depot at Shepparton. As there is only one R M Freeburn recorded as a RAAF World War II casualty, his death appears to be incorrectly attributed as a casualty against No. 9 Squadron at RAAF Station Rathmines NSW. As a result, his name has been entered on the Catalina Base Memorial.
