While off duty on Sunday 3 December 1939, Aircraftman Class 1 Gent (Driver Motor Transport) died as the result of a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Adelaide Terrace and Bay Street, Perth. He was the driver of a motor cycle that collided with a car at night. He had joined the RAAF just 12 days previously and his is the first in-service death of a RAAF Member in Western Australia.
