At 0850 hours on 6 November 1941, Hudson N7228 from Thornaby crashed at West Acklam, Yorkshire, and both the crew members died of their injuries.

A Court of Inquiry into the accident stated: “the Pilot decided to come in and land for some unknown reason, erred in his line of approach and decided to go around again. He apparently raised his wheels, but must have stalled into the ground with the flaps in the fully down position, as the aircraft marks caused by the crash, hit the ground in the opposite direction to the line of approach.”
