On 4 April 1918, Lieutenant Grant was killed in the crash of Sopwith Camel B.9248 at Minchinhampton.  The Court of Enquiry determined that Lieutenant Grant, while flying at about 100 feet, attempted a half roll to the right and lost control of the aircraft and that there was no evidence to prove that the machine was faulty.
