At the time of the accident, Pilot Officer Green was on attachment to RAAF Station Laverton for conversion to Lancer aircraft.
On 29 April 1943, Lancer A56-7 went missing while on a reconnaissance flight from Wagga Wagga NSW to RAAF Station Laverton VIC. An inquiry attributed a cause of the accident to the pilot failing to obtain a route weather forecast before undertaking the flight. The aircraft was heard in the Healesville area at the time of its disappearance, but an extensive search failed to locate it. The wreckage containing Pilot Officer Green’s remains was discovered in June 1958.
