At 2201 hours on the night of 5 August 1942 Halifax R9495 took off from Topcliffe detailed to bomb Bochum, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at Odenrode (Noord-Brabant), 14 kms north of Eindhoven, Netherlands, and all the crew members were killed.
