At 0749 hours on 14 December 1944, Kittyhawk A29-176 flown by Flight Sergeant Hepburn crashed one mile south of the bombing range and he was killed. During dive bombing exercises, the aircraft was seen to spiral dive from an estimated height of 2,000 feet and disintegrate on impact.
