At about 1445 hours on 4 December 1945 a work party were instructed to clear rubbish from the No. 15 Squadron main hangar at Kingaroy, place it on a 4 x 4 Tipper and take it to the dump about a mile at the back of the aerodrome. While returning to the aerodrome, the driver of the Tipper swerved to avoid a cow which began to cross the road and Leading Aircraftman Hinds fell from the Tipper. He was admitted to the General Hospital at Kingaroy but died from his injuries at about 1515 hours on 4 December 1945.
