At 2226 hours on 23 May 1944 Wellington NB802 took off from Chivenor to carry out an anti-submarine patrol in the Bay of Biscay. Nothing further was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it did not return to base. In 1949 it was recorded that the crew members were missing lost at sea.
