At 2200 hours on the night of 119 May 1942 Halifax W1101 took off from Linton-on-Ouse to bomb Mannheim, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return. The aircraft crashed near Mannheim and all the crew members were killed.
