On 14 January 1941, Corporal Jarvis, a Wireless Operator, was killed in action at about 1340 hours GMT about 5 miles south east of Tobruk. He was attached to No. 208 Army Co-operation Squadron RAF, and was performing the duties of visiting Corporal for the maintenance of Wireless Telegraph sets which were on loan to the RAF Squadron. During a sandstorm, the vehicle he was driving overshot the gun positions surrounding Tobruk, and was fired on by enemy anti-tank guns. Corporal Jarvis was killed instantly and the truck was destroyed.

Corporal John George Parr (255713) (Discharged: 11 February 1946) who was travelling with Corporal Jarvis was taken prisoner and later freed when Tobruk was captured by Australian and British Forces.
