On the night of 7/8th June 1944 Halifax took off from Tempsford detailed to carry out Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) Operation Periwnkle and Walt 3, and the aircraft set course for France on take-off. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed near the village of Veauville-Les-Baons and all the crew members were killed.
