On 17 December 1940, Leading Aircraftman Joseph, a pilot under training, was killed when Master N7591 crashed at Tern Hill just after take-off at 0950 hours. The aircraft’s wings had not been covered by frost covers during the night which resulted in a sluggish take off and then a side-slip into the ground.
