At 1224 hours on 24 November 1941, Gypsy Moth A7-120 flown solo by Sergeant Laws crashed at the aerodrome at Evans Head and he died of his injuries. The aircraft crashed and burned while engaged in flying as a target for ground to air camera gunnery.
