On return from an operational flight over the Atlantic on 1 October1943, a Sunderland aircraft of No. 204 Squadron crashed when landing at approximately 2205 hours. The aircraft, approaching to land, overshot and made a second circuit. On the second circuit the aircraft again overshot and crashed. The aircraft struck the water in a nose down attitude and turned completely over on impact. Of the 10 crew, seven injured crew members were rescued and 3 were missing. In 1948 it was recorded that the three missing crew members had lost their lives at sea.
