On 9 October 1942 Hurricane BP462 set out on a ground strafing raid behind enemy lines. The aircraft crashed behind enemy lines and Pilot Officer McClelland was killed. It was assumed that the aircraft had been hit by the intense anti-aircraft fire encountered.
