At 1330 hours on 7 April 1942, Wirraway A20-79 crashed at the Air to Ground Gunnery range at Uranquinty and the crew of two was killed. The aircraft was authorised to carry out an instrument flying training exercise. A civilian witness stated that the aircraft dived several times on a gunnery target and it failed to come out of its last dive. It was considered that the crash resulted from a disobedience of orders.
