At 1906 hours on the night of 22 September 1943 Halifax LM261 took off from Lissett detailed to bomb Hanover, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. It was considered that LM261 was probably shot down by a night fighter and crashed at 2330 hours near Grosse-Lobke, 22kms south east of Hanover. All the crew members were killed.
