On the night of 7 December 1942, Wellington DV425 took off from RAF Moreton-in-Marsh for night circuits and landings. While so engaged, it began to rain quite heavily, and the crew were advised to hold off until the storm had passed through. Unfortunately, control was lost and the bomber came down four miles down wind of the flare path at 0005 hours on the hitting the ground at High Furze, a mile to the west of Burmington and about two miles south south west from Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire. The three on board were killed.
