On 16 March 1917, Second Lieutenant Meudell resigned from the Australian Army and accepted a Commission in the British Army.

During gunnery practice at Ames on 10 August 1917, Second Lieutenant Meudell and Air Mechanic Second Class A Lawson* RFC (P690066) (Gunner), flying Sopwith Two-Seater aircraft A2419, were killed as the result of a mid-air collision.  The other aircraft is not identified in the RAF record and its crew members did not become fatalities.
