At 1135 hours on 4 November 1944 Lancaster N219 took off from Witchford detailed to bomb Salingen, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed near Solingen, which is approximately 13 miles south east of Dusseldorf and all the crew members were killed.
