At 1737 hours on 22 November 1943 Lancaster DS782 took off from Witchford to bomb Berlin. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it did not return to base. Following post war investigations and enquiries, it was recorded in 1950 that the missing crew members had no known graves.
