At 1853 hours on the night of 15 March 1944 Stirling EJ124 took off from Lakenheath detailed to bomb Amiens, France. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed 2kms south west of Boves (Somme), and 10 kms south east of Amiens, France. All the crew members were killed.
