On 13 April 1943 Sergeant Munro survived a mid-air collision between Kittyhawk aircraft A29-181 and A29-173 in which Sergeant Robert Harry Overmyer (32700) was killed.
While landing at 1640 hours on 27 April 1943, Vultee Vengeance A27-214 struck an obstacle on the south west corner of the Laverton Aerodrome boundary and crashed, fatally injuring Sergeant Munro. The crew members of A27-214 were:
