At about 0610 hours on 13 February 1943 Beaufort W6543 took off from RAF Station Colombo. Shortly after take-off, the aircraft struck the roof of a house approximately 400 yards from the west end on the runway and crashed, killing two crew members, fatally injuring one and seriously injuring the other two.
