On the morning of 4 June 1944, Lancaster ND841 took off from RAF Downham Market at 0028 hours, detailed to attack a coastal defence battery at Calais, France. On take off a swing developed in the aircraft and it crashed into a hangar exploding soon afterwards. All the crew were killed.
