Leading Aircraftman O’Connor was on leave and was admitted to No. 3 RAAF Hospital, Concord West, on 1 April 1943 suffering from Pulmonary Tuberculosis. On 9 April 1943 he was transferred to the Lady Davidson Home and he was discharged from the RAAF with effect 25 July 1943. He subsequently died in the Prince of Wales Hospital on 26 August 1943.
