At 2205 hours on the night of 10 April 1942Wellington X3702 took off from RAF Honington to bomb Essen, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. Post war it was established that the aircraft was shot down and crashed at Himmelgeist on the east bank of the Rhine, 9 kms east south east of Neuss, Germany. All the crew members had been killed.
